Position Tracking on your Project

Head contractor management teams determine if they require position tracking for their subcontractors and how this is controlled in the Virtual Super.

Position tracking refers to the process where a user is tracked when signed-on to the SafeSite app and these positions are loaded to the Virtual Super for Chain of Responsibility (CoR) purposes. Alternatively, GPS devices installed on machines send position data to the Virtual Super.

There are 3 position tracking controls available to head contractors:

  • Project Wide - Enforce Position Frequency
  • Individual Item Code & Item Code Group controls
  • Project Boundary - an overarching control when Enforce Position Frequency is on

Project Wide - Enforce Position Frequency

Project wide position tracking is controlled by an Enforce Position Frequency setting. By default, this is set to off for all projects. If a project would like to enforce position tracking this is enabled by the Cloudscape team.

Enforce Position Frequency = On

  • By default, subcontractors on the project will be tracked when signed-on to the SafeSite app.
  • Subcontractors registering the SafeSite app for this project will be asked to enable Location Tracking as part of the registration process.

Enforce Position Frequency = Off

  • By default, subcontractors on the project will not be tracked when signed-on to the SafeSite app.
  • Subcontractors registering the SafeSite app for this project will not be asked to enable Location tracking as part of the registration process.

Individual Item Code or Item Group Controls

The head contractor management team can control position tracking on a per Item Code & Item Group basis using sign-on profiles. A custom sign-on profile can be applied to an individual item code or item code group to override the project wide settings.

For example, if enforce position frequency (project wide) is off but the project requires position tracking for hauler trucks, a custom sign-on profile can be created and applied to the hauler truck item code to enforces position frequency.

To capture the best possible position data:

People & Plant tracking: Set Enforce position frequency to Normal

Heavy Machinery / On-Road Trucks: Set Enforce position frequency to High

See the link below for a detailed explanation of Sign-on Profiles.

Project Boundary

The project boundary setting in an overarching setting which applies to any project with Enforce Position Frequency On. The project boundary is a geofenced area drawn around the site perimeter on the map. Outside of this boundary, there is a 1km buffer zone.

When enabled, positions are only tracked for SafeSite users and/or machines with GPS devices when they are inside the project boundary or the buffer zone.

By default, the Project Boundary is off. If a project would like the Project Boundary on, it is enabled by the Cloudscape team.
